DU students’ participation in Global education week’s activities

From November 14 – 22, 2015 Daugavpils University students participated in the Global Education Week’s (GEW) activities. The themes of the Global Educational week in year 2015 were “MAKE EQUALITY REAL.” Within this week the students from the professional Master’s degree program “Education” participated in LAPAS project “Dilles” activities related to the theme of the week.The Global Education Week (GEW) is a Europe-wide awareness-raising event, which takes place annually in formal and non-formal educational settings across the continent. The first GEW, launched by the North-South Centre in 1999, focused on how to overcome poverty and social exclusion. The tradition of engaging in the activities of a global week were initiated already In 1999 when the Council of Europe (CoE) has launched the first Global Education Week, promoting activities in the member States with a specific focus on how to overcome poverty and social exclusion. In today’s world the main challenge for Education is to give answers to growing global interconnectedness and offer learning processes relevant to contemporary societal changes and its increasing complexity.The aims of the Global Education Week are to encourage participants to explore educational activities for inclusive education and society. It addresses issues of diversity and inequality at the local as well as at the global level by raising awareness of the wider world and of one’s own role as a world citizens, respect for diversity, ability to take action to make the world a more equitable and sustainable place, as well as to undertake a responsibility for one’s actions.
