IIC Participation in IBA Workshop in Tallinn

13122-14507-nOn April 20 – 22, 2015 asoc. Professor of Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences, Centre of Sustainable Education at Daugavpils University, Dzintra Iliško took part in The Inquiry-based Approach – Facilitating Multi-stakeholder Collaboration (IBA) facilitator training workshop in Tallinn. IBA has been designed to meet process and outcome objective related to multiple stakeholder collaboration, learning and action. The knowledge, tools and methods developed by scholars and practitioners working with these concepts were adjusted to SWEDEST partners to design a generic IBA.  This workshop was organized by SWEDEST, based on experiences in professional training programs by involving multi-stakeholder teams in cities. SWEDEST is a research and development Centre within Uppsala University, the centre promotes Education for Sustainable Development.

Among the participants of the workshop there were SWEDEST members from Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Russia, Belorussia, and Ukraine, and Sweden.

This workshop has offered a unique opportunity for students to build capacity in facilitating multi-stakeholder processes. The students were introduced to a set of methods that are critical for initiating, maintaining and successfully concluding collaborative learning and multi-stakeholder processes under conditions of complexity, uncertainty and controversy. The course draws on a selected set of theories related to learning, facilitation and governance. The focus of the workshop was on learning new forms of governance based on improved collaboration between stakeholders that carries a potential for tackling complex and contested problems. The participants of a workshop have developed their capacity to facilitate change processes by involving different stakeholders, using relevant real-world cases that they bring from their professional life and develop during the workshop.
