“DISCOVER LATVIA VIA LATGALE REGION”

Application deadline for Latvian government scholarship holders: April 1, 2019.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Please fill in online application form, add curriculum vitae and motivation letter (2000 – 3000 characters with spaces).
EVALUATION
The final decision on granting scholarships will be made by the evaluation committee of State Education Development Agency Republic of Latvia. Daugavpils University will inform all applicants on the results.
COSTS
Scholarship covers accommodation, catering, lectures, workshops, excursions and study tours, and all cultural activities.
Students will be ensured with the living place in Biplan Hotel (18. novembra iela 50, Daugavpils), that is 15 min. walk to University.
PARTICIPANTS: bachelor, master, doctoral students, academic and research staff of foreign higher education institutions.
Summer school of regional studies “DISCOVER LATVIA VIA LATGALE REGION” comprises two parts: Latvian language learning and regional studies with integrated language learning.
The language of instruction is Latvian and English. All students will be provided with language learning materials. Students completing a course will be issued a certificate of attendance (6 ECTS).
Scholarship covers all participation costs except travel, visa and insurance costs (participants of the summer school have to cover travel expenses from the country of origin to the summer school location in Daugavpils themselves).
Scholarships will be granted to 10 students by evaluating application form, motivation letters and curriculum vitae.
The main aim and objectives:
- To popularize Latvian language and give an opportunity to learn Latvian language as a foreign language in Eastern region of Latvia;
- To introduce Latvian language learners with regional culture, history and education opportunities;
- To promote the awareness of Latvian language abroad, offering its members to learn and develop Latvian language A1 at all basic skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening);
- To promote Latvian and Daugavpils University cooperation with a foreign higher education institutions and small businesses, which specializes in regional culinary heritage or handicraft products. To encourage learners to use Latvian language in the public space;
Summer school “DISCOVER LATVIA VIA LATGALE REGION” is an excellent opportunity to experience Eastern Latvia and learn Latvian language in multicultural environment.
