DAUGAVPILS UNIVERSITY IS INVOLVED IN IMPLEMENTION OF THE TWINNING PROJECT IN GEORGIA

The implementation of the European Union Twinning project in Georgia “Supporting inter-sectoral collaboration possibilities between Research and Industry” is started on 1 April 2020.
The aim of this project is to enhance the capacity of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia (SRNSFG) by revising and improving existing programmes and operational activities of SRNSFG in response to national priorities and socio-economic challenges, considering regional and international context. The project will address the absence of the science-business collaboration, promote intersectoral multidisciplinary research opportunities and support advancement of the science, technology and innovation system in Georgia.
Two years long project will be implemented by the lead partner Umweltbundesamt GmbH, Austria together with Joanneum Research, Austria, Austrian Science Fund, Austrian Research Promotion Agency, German Aerospace (DLR) Project Management Agency and Daugavpils University, Latvia.
The project will be implemented by Austrian, German and Latvian experts, whereas the European Commission has allocated EUR 1.3 million for the implementation thereof.
The project consists from four main components:
Component 1: Science – business links strengthened through supportive collaborative activities and funding schemes
Component 2: Legal framework and grant call administration procedures of SRNSFG revised and improved
Component 3: Institutional capacity of SRNSFG with a view to strengthening international collaboration enhanced
Component 4: Science Communication and awareness on science-business collaboration stimulated
Resident Twinning Adviser is Inese Gavarane from Daugavpils University and during project implementation day-to-day will work in tight cooperation with SRNSFG administration in Georgia.
Junior Partner Leader from Daugavpils University is Juris Soms and several short-term experts from different departments are mainly involved in the project Component 4 implementation.
Administrative support at Daugavpils University is providing project coordinator Zaiga Vitola and bookkeeper Dainis Sondors.
