Constitutional Assembly took decision on reorganisation and change of title

On September 28, 2017 the constitutional assembly meeting of 100 delegates was held at Daugavpils University. During the meeting the participants had an opportunity to listen to the rector’s speech, decided on the DU reorganization and new assembly. In September 2017 an informative message by the Cabinet of Ministers, including the following points, was accepted:
- consolidation of other educational institutions around DU;
- development of field of medicine at DU;
- DU should become the main development direction at Eastern Latvia.
During an open voting of the constitutional assembly the decision ”to reorganize the derived public person ”Daugavpils University ” into the derived public person ”University of Eastern Latvia” from 01/03/2018 with purpose to successfully implement the aims defined by the DU Strategy” was supported by 79 votes.
University of Eastern Latvia is going to declare itself as an ambitious, based on academic traditions, modern and competitive centre of studies, science and innovations, preparing competitive specialists for international market and realizing a scientific research of international level, as well as providing a qualitative education in the fields of nature, engineering, education, health, humanities and social sciences, encouraging by its activity the development of the Latgale region and whole Latvia.
