Participation at the conference: “EMPOWERING WOMEN IN CONFLICT: ECUMENICAL ENGAGEMENT FOR PEACE AND JUSTICE”

On August 28th – 31st, 2018, UNWLA’s Lectureship in Women’s Studies in cooperation with the Faculty of Philosophy and Theology of the Ukrainian Catholic University have organized an International Conference of ESWTR entitled “EMPOWERING WOMEN IN CONFLICT: ECUMENICAL ENGAGEMENT FOR PEACE AND JUSTICE” that took place at the Faculty of Philosophy and Theology of the Ukrainian Catholic University. Prof. of Daugavpils University Dzintra Iliško participated at the conference with the report: “Mending a Torn World: Women as Peacebuilders in the Interreligious Dialogue”. The participants of the conference discussed the multiplicity of women’s experience in situations of violence and discussed how to promote women’s role in peacebuilding processes and how to empower women to become equal partners in peace processes, how to reframe understanding of women’s roles in peacemaking. The questions posed were: which hermeneutical questions in reading the tradition are being raised? How can a peacebuilding politics draw constructively on women’s experiences? The participants of the conference were from Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Russia, Slovakia, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and other countries.
